The Germans’ desire for order and purity has long been “a lady in the tongue” for a long time. German policy in environmental matters is aimed precisely at a clean economy. The BIOFOMBANK project was one of the last eco-breaks of this direction. He is currently actively developing researchers of the University of Freiburg.
The main idea of this project is the creation of insulation foam. Raw materials for this material are waste of the forest industry, or rather components allocated from them.
Tannin contained in the wood bark and serves as the main raw material. Having passed special processing, it can be used in the production of hard foams. »Have excellent noise and thermal insulation properties, as well as good fire resistance parameters. According to scientists, such a bio-pen can become a worthy alternative to toxic polystyrene foam.
This project of German scientists attracted the attention of not only the German government, which supports its further development. Researchers received financial support from industrial as well as commercial organizations of France, Slovenia, Italy, Finland and Spain.
This is not the first attempt to create foam from wood waste. A scientist of Jewish University Jerusalem also works on such a project.
Of course, wood foam will never become as popular as furniture from an array of wood. Nevertheless, more and more often design solutions imply not only nominal, but also the most real identity of the “internal” and “external” component of the interior.
